I am considering getting a roku or a chromecast, from what I've seen the roku looked like it would be the better investment and they often seem to go on sale which is a bonus IMO.

Chromecast really has a lot to offer for $30. Pair that with a $5 Plex app for your phone and you really have a ton of features into something that simply plugs into your HDMI port and has next to no footprint.

That being said, Roku's are great devices, and if something like the headphone support is important to you, you won't regret it.

They both have there place. If you want ease of use and care most about using your TV as a "Smart TV" then go with the Roku. If you want to tinker and perhaps cast content from a media server to your TV then go with the Chromecast.
